Things I hate about nights

May 14, 2020 14:44

I am not by nature a nocturnal person, left to my own devices I like to get up early and go to bed early so night duty feels like an imposition physically. It is made worse by the fact that our fixed rota gives us a single night off in between four nights and three nights. I am sure that everyone can see that one night off does not equal one day ( Read more... )

I didn’t shut a cupboard in the kitchen properly last night and at 2.00 I checked in from work via the Furbo and could see Tag licking something so I was not surprised this morning to discover that they had stolen and eaten a small carton of cream, another of coconut milk and also a small plastic container of mango chutney.

Jesus, it's like living with drunk toddlers hahahaaaa. If I didn't know better I'd say they were trying to make an impromptu korma. I bet that's resulting in interesting poo, as well.

here are my two hounds having fun in the daffodils.

Ah, the boundless joy of running as hard as you can for as long as you want! Love it.

Drunken toddlers is very much the ambiance ! At the moment the animals are all dozing but as soon as I stand up they will be bouncing around in eager anticipation, when actually I just want to go to bed. Marco loves curry and I am sure he would knock up a korma if he had opposable thumbs. 😁
I am looking forward to seeing the flora of southern Turkey very soon, although I guess that you might need public transport to get out of the city ?

Actually I can walk to some really beautiful natural areas, and I definitely need to do that once this heat wave passes in a few days... as it turns out, I just posted a photo of the lilies in the garden across the street, but of course that's all down to their gardener and not naturally-occurring. Hopefully I can get out to see some real nature soon.

I'm off to night shift right now. They are easier than yours though. Nice nearly-empty ICU. I feel a bit under the weather. Covid?

I hope that you are ok, it’s hard not to over analyze every cough or ache ...
I haven’t done ICU since the 80s, we had to do obs every 30 minutes, including hourly urine measurements, and the fluorescent lighting stayed on all the time. I expect that everything is machines now. I find that younger colleagues are amazed by how we managed without the incontinence aids, changing the draw sheets every two hours, no gloves on the wards for dealing with dirty stuff...and no one wanted an enquiry any time someone died unexpectedly.
It was a lot harder work, physically, and tougher on the patients and I have no wish to go back to that time but fun to reminisce.

Anxious patients ring their bell often... they need a lot of reassurance, confused patients ring their bell because they think it’s the light switch or the flush for the toilet. Those with behavioral issues do not ring the bell, they wake up and decide to unmake their bed, to put their slippers down the toilet, to redecorate their room with poo and to wash their clothes in the shower. They don’t always wake up until their bed is soaked and they are cold and then they can be really aggressive as we try to clean them up and remake the bed. - What a great description of how their minds are working.

Loved that video of the dogs running - joyous!!!
