How paranoid do you have to be?

So I had an interesting experience yesterday after class. I was getting out of my poetry class at 9:30 last night and I'm walking across campus to get in my car. At one point I have to cross the street at a crosswalk and there's a girl there already waiting. From the fact that she's waiting at a crosswalk at 9:30 should clue you into the fact that ( Read more... )

I would guess that she's either really sheltered and bought into the idea that the average bad guy could look like the guy next door, and to suspect anyone. It's funny, but I'm finally starting to appreciate that feeling a bit, now that I'm one of the not-so-favored few here in ye old Japan, except I tend to get it from old people who have never seen a white person before.
Anyway, have you ever heard of these guys? http://www.christsidesouljahz.com/
I was listening to their stuff and it's okay, nothing spectacular, but passable as far as hip-hop goes.

I hate to say it but I can understand completely. If I didn't know you I may have had the same attitude, not because of your race but because you are a man and I am alone and no one could hear me scream. It has become very much a cultural fear for women -- you always hear about it on the news and we are paranoid. So try not to take it too personally. Everyone who knows you has realized that you're not THAT creepy.

hey j-dog, whuddup. yeah, I can guess you can look at the thing from both sides of the ball, seeing it as being perhaps a little paranoid and then seeing it as any guy could possibly pose a threat. might I suggest that if it happens again (which it might not) just say a friendly hello and give her reason to believe that there are some decent guys around.
