Canon Recs, please

I've been a fan of Superman in movies and television since Christopher Reeve wowed everyone in the late 70s.  I enjoyed most of the Batman movies as well.  However, I'm woefully ignorant as to how they work and act together.  I'd like to start writing more S/B fic (I've only done two, and one was only a comment fic), but enjoy writing more when I ( Read more... )

I strongly second Generations.

Depending on your tolerance for groovy slang and far out happenings, I would also recommend the Super-Sons.

Superman appears in Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader, but he doesn't get as much page time as Selina or Alfred (but I think he does get a bigger role than some Bat-family members, and WHttCC is awesome)

I love second votes for things - it makes me more likely to put something higher on the list (because, truthfully, I think these are all going on my list).

Super-Sons sounds fun. I don't mind slang - it can be a lot of fun.

I'll look into WHTTCC, too. Thank you for taking the time to help me out. I really appreciate it.

First I have to say I'm sorry you bought Crisis On Two Earths ( ... )

Well, I've bought it, but haven't read it so I don't know if I'll regret it or not. I know that ctbn60 just yesterday made some icons from it that made it look really good. I'll have to wait and see.

I just checked a review on Amazon, and my JL does include the Unlimited series you're talking about, so that's awesome.

Okay, it sounds like I have another animated series to add to my collection. If S/B love hadn't sold me, then tentacles would have *G* Plus, Superman is my main love anyway, so I can never get too much of him. Also, Knight Time is still there. I'll try to watch that soon.

Thanks for the offer of caps, but I don't want to put you out. That sounds time consuming.

Thank you so much for your effort and time on my behalf. I really appreciat the help.

For affordable, I have to recommend Showcase Presents. They are thick, b-and-w reprints of old stories, cover price around 17 to 18 US dollars. (Though you can get them cheaper online.) There are three World's Finest volumes.

Affordable is good *g* I went ahead and ordered the first of these. Thanks for the rec. I like the idea of getting a flavor of the older canons. Thank you so much for taking the time to rec these and providing links. I really appreciate the help.

OoooOOOh! Fun thread! Lots of good recs, too.
*adds a couple to own list*

A couple of things that come to mind that I don't *think* have been mentioned yet are "The Trust" and that coffee-drinking one. The one where they go flying together and talking about their feelings and make coffee for each other. It's... Bronze Age World's Finest, I'm pretty sure. I'll try to find it.

Haven't I gotten a huge amount of great recs? I have quite a list to work from now.

Trust sound promising from the title, and the coffe-drinking one sounds like a lot of fun. I hope you find it.

Thank you for taking the time to help me. I appreciate it.

No problem and Mithen just posted a link! It's fabulous!

The Trust is the one by Chip Kidd and Alex Ross and Batman 'will do for Superman what Lois cannot' -- Superman's gone berserk and Batman has to take him down. (It's gorgeous and full of friendship, respect, sacrifice, honor, love. I really, really like it.)

I adore the coffee story arc, particularly WF 285. Hope you like it!

Here's a link to the coffee arc (that is the best name for it, seriously, coffee is the overriding theme!)

I have to admit I thought of your "One Cream, Two Sugar" constantly while reading it. :)
