World's Finest Summer Games

General Idea:

The idea of the World's Finest Summer Games is to have fun, write new stories, create new art and share it with each other.  These stories and art will then be posted anonymously for everyone to enjoy.  After viewing the art and reading the stories, people will vote for their favorites by category.

For recent edits, check the red text!  Of special note is the new art category: Sequential Art.

Contest:
Summer: Games

Eligibility:
Any story or work of art, prepared specifically for this contest and not previously posted elsewhere, that includes the Superman and Batman as the primary figures in the story and concerns Summer and Games in some way. (E.g. it’s the middle of August and Bruce and Clark are playing beach volleyball. Or they are playing mind games with each other. Or other kinds of games...)

Procedure:

  1. Any competing contest entry should be sent to damo.in.japan (at) gmail.com before August 31 at 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time.

  2. A writer may withdraw a previously submitted entry anytime prior to the deadline should they so choose (to change it, edit it etc.) by providing notice to damo.in.japan (at) gmail.com.

  3. All entries will be presented for voting anonymously. After the contest is finished, names of authors and artists will be announced. Please respect the anonymity of the voting process.

  4. When posted, all entries will be comment locked. Each entrant is encouraged to repost the entry on their own journal or to WF after the contest is finished.

Rules:

  1. Anyone who submits a contest entry automatically gives their permission for their entry to be compiled with all other entries as part of an electronic e-zine that will be published at the end of the contest (a free downloadable file available to anyone who wants a copy). If you do not want your entry included in the compilation project, please so indicate as part of your story header.

  2. All entries must be submitted before the deadline stated above.

  3. All entries should be submitted via email to damo.in.japan (at) gmail.com with [Contest] and the Title of the entry in the subject line of the email (i.e. [Contest] The Scrabble Disaster). Please make sure your entry is properly labeled.

*All entries must include the proper header information in the following format:

Title:
Pairings/Characters:
Rating: Mandatory!
Warnings: if applicable
Spoilers: if any (for current comic book issues and recent movies only)
Disclaimer:
Permission to use pictures/story in e-zine? (Yes/No)*
Categories in which this entry will compete:

*Once again, if you do not want your submission included in the compilation project, please make sure to indicate such in your header. If the author does not explicitly state that they do not wish to have their entry put in the e-zine, then we will assume that the participant has no objections, as stated in Rule # 1.

  1. Superman and Batman must be featured in the story or art and it should focus on their relationship in some way, be that their working relationship or emotional relationship.

  2. All entries must have been produced specifically for this contest. An entry will not be eligible if it has been posted somewhere else. Likewise, after submitting entries to the World's Finest Awards, competitors must refrain from posting the entries elsewhere until the contest is completely over.

  3. Make sure that all entries have been beta read and formatted to your liking before sending them in.  Artists may wish to send print resolution images* in addition to web resolution images as their work will be included in the book/ebook.  I have access to Gimp and Photoshop up to CE3 so most file types are acceptable.  For authors, I have access to Word, Open Office, Abiword and Word Perfect, so most files types are also acceptable.

  4. You may submit more than one entry, however, each person can have only one entry competing in any category. This will prevent the competitor from competing against themselves.
    For example:
A competitor many submit a short story to compete in the Humor category, and a different short story to compete in the Angst category. However, only one of these short story entries can compete in the Best Short Story category. The competitor must indicate where each entry will compete as part of the header.
*Web resolution is commonly from 72~96 dots per inch (dpi).  Print resolution varies, but 300dpi is a fairly standard number.

Voting:

All entries will be posted the day after the due date.

The polls for voting will be posted the following week. The voting period will be approximately two weeks long. (I will post the closing date of voting when I have my plane tickets confirmed...)

At the conclusion of the voting period, the winners’ names will be posted and prizes will be distributed accordingly.

Awards & Prizes:

Prizes:
There will be graphics provided to every participant to commemorate their participation and graphic banners to each first, second and third (gold, silver and bronze) place finisher to commemorate their accomplishment.

In addition, I will make a bound version of the ebook for the top vote getters overall in the fiction and art groups.  Think of this as the all-around medal in gymnastics.  The single top vote getter (across all categories) wins the "all-around" award and, as a result, the bound copy of the ebook.  I have also gotten some items for the silver and bronze medalists in the all around.  For more detailed information on all of the prizes, see the follow-up post.

For an example of a printed ebook, see this post.

If you want to help pimp the WFSG, you can use these 100x200 banners!
