I wanted to thank everyone for responding to the How do you like your S/B served? poll that I recently posted. Seventy-five people responded--which actually amazed me. That level of participation is a joy to see ( Read more... )

>>am too crazy-busy to comment

I think a lot of people have this problem. It's such a drag when RL interferes with fandom. lol

Thank you so much for responding, Yena. :)

I felt the *exact* same way when coming into the S/B fandom. There's so much contradictory canon to process -- it's daunting. Even now that I've resigned myself to never feeling quite *right* about any characterization decision I choose to make, I find it hard to ignore the fact that I *know* there are dozens of people out there rolling their eyes at my choices because they hold a different (and valid) characterization in their head. It's incredibly frustrating, and the only thing I can say is: do you think it would be helpful at all if there was more meta-level discussions on list, or perhaps if there were people designated at Canon-istas who you could go to with questions publicly or privately?

>>I just got made redundant

Shit! I'm sorry to hear that. I'm hoping you land on your feet.

I'm going to think about the meta thing. See what I can come up with.

I have an idea for an AU S/B series that I've been sitting on for a while now. It's mostly because I can't justify writing fan fic when I have term papers due. However, winter break is coming up and I hope to start writing then!

As far as lack of commenting, it's because I feel intimidated by the wonderful writing on this comm. I feel like I don't have anything worthwhile to contribute other than "Good job!".

Woo! I look forward to it! :)

I think a lot of people feel this way. I have to admit, I find it surprising, but I certainly understand. I'm going think about a solution for this...

I guess I don't write S/B (or heck, any much fiction) because

a) I'm really, really lazy *_*;
b) I don't think I really *know* the characters well enough to be able to write a good fic about them - I can appreciate the stories other people write about the pairing, but I know it'd come across as really shallow and lacking if I tried. *lol*

As for the commenting... well... I do love the stories, but sometimes it's hard to comment because

1) I'm lazy... Not a big surprise.
2) For stories that I really love, I want to leave more than just a trite one-liner, which unfortunately is what my frazzled brain can only think of a lot of the time. So in the end I often end up not commenting at all... which I definitely feel guilty about sometimes. (-_-)\

LMAO. I go through whole *years* where this is the case with my writing. :)

>>I want to leave more than just a trite one-liner,

A lot of people feel this way, and I find it very interesting. I'm going to try to come up with something that addresses this phenomenon. We'll see...

Thanks so much for answering!

how many people in this community have ever thought about writing S/B, and what has stopped you to this point from doing so

Only managed two stories so far (though I have bunnies for more, and a huge thing in progress), but they all got eclipsed by the gigantic project of doom I've been working on the last few months. I'm not worried; S/B isn't going anywhere, and I figure the boys will still be there when I can make more time in my writing schedule. :)

Why respond to a poll and not comment on the stories (which are the lifeblood of a fandom)?

I have even less time to read than to write, sadly. I have stories bookmarked from two fandoms I got into and then fell out of, still, so this has been a problem for a while. When I do read, I do comment, but that's not as common as I'd like it to be.

This is exactly the problem I usually have. I am usually eithering writing or reading; I rarely have time to do both. If I read it, I comment, but sometimes I go months without reading anything in a fandom...

Thanks so much for answering. :)
