Linking Back to an Entry

Aug 19, 2012 15:29

After posting the writing challenge this morning, two separate people asked me how to put a link to one of their journal entries as a reply to the challenge post. Since I couldn't find anything pertinent in the LJ FAQ, what follows are my own instructions. If you still have questions, please reply to this entry, and I'll be happy to help.

  1. Create an entry in your journal as you normally would.
  2. Next, click the highlighted name of the journal entry from the listings on your page.
  3. The journal entry should now be shown on a page by itself, and the address bar at the top will show an address specific to that entry. For example, http://username.livejournal.com/xxxxxx.html
  4. Position your mouse over the highlighted address bar, right click, and choose Copy. Alternatively, press Alt+D, Aplications Key, and choose Copy.
  5. Browse your way over to worldofscribble, find the writing challenge for the current week, and choose "Leave a Comment."
  6. Paste the link into the Message field, along with any other comments you wish to leave there, and click the "Post Comment" button.

That's it, you're done.

If you want to get fancy, you can have a piece of text show up instead of the plain link to your journal. To do this enter your link in the format shown below, replacing the link and example text with your own information:

Example Text

I hope that helps.
