ITEM! celeb spotting: bbc footy presenter ray stubbs in lower richmond road yesterday lunchtime, laden with the day's newspapers - i gave him one of those "don't i know you from somewhere?" looks before i twigged who he was - then i was trying to think of some of the songs he sang on celebrity fame academy but by the time i was ready to sing at him ( Read more... )

Mostly agreed on Ultimates, especially as regards the art, but surely Thor's status had to be resolved eventually? Otherwise it would all have gone a bit frsutratingly Lost. Certainly it means that they won't be able to tell such interesting stories now but...I was never going to get the next team's volume anyway. Same with the independence, really.

personally i wouldve rather the thor "mystery" hadn't been resolved ( - and if they had to resolve it, i prefer the superpowered loony option )

mind you, i still wonder whatever happened to audrey horne, trapped in the bank vault when the bomb went off
( final episode of twin peaks )

( - i haven't been following lost - yet )

I am with Barry on this, really. I liked several years where it was ambiguous, but resolving it to the mythological Thor was inevitable once we got Loki, and it opens up all those new possibilities, which being a loony wouldn't. Now they have the option of a Thor comic.

I don't suppose I'll read it under anyone else - I am, as you know, a Millar fan rather than an Ultimates one, first and foremost. Actually I'd like a Grant Morrison Ultimates, but then I'd like a Morrison anything.

I thought Andrew was doing the breakdowns for Bry on Ultimates - I think I've seen some uncredited pages earlier in the series too. The blank page has been a perennial problem for Bryan (and I'm a fine one to talk!) but then, when he gets started, it explodes with lush and unexpected detail.
I have no direct contact with these guys so its possible that I could be off-base here. Andrew's strengths aren't in the finishing department but in his excellent blocking out of storytelling.

you may be privy to secret info - i had a feeling that currie did more than "just" ink but assumed maybe backgrounds or additional figures - layouts never occured to me

now you've mentioned it, the layouts on ultimates 2 might not be as goob (or at least gonsistent) as in vol.1 - i'll have to go back & check - but that is def. also true of the inking - but it cld be that hitch's own inking gomes out on top rather than currie's - and also sometimes, in this marvellous age of digital repro they don't ink over the pencils at all, do they? ( thereby adding more gonfusion )

i had a quick cursory google for ultimates credits & on anything officially marvel they're the ambiguous "millar/hitch/currie" or "art by bryan hitch with andrew currie" whereas on many review/gomics chat sites it sez: "inks by currie" so maybe that sunk in w/me over time

you can spot Andrew's anatomy (and consequently the cast shadow) - its very different to Bryan's. Andrew's definitely not the inker. Bryan's inks are very good - I've watched them appear on a page from very broad layouts. Like that guy said about Wally Wood - its like he can see the finished work on the page and you watch as he peels away layers of indistinctness (oh dear - I think that must be a neologism!)

ta for this info - it's a shame then that andrew currie doesn't get the credit he deserves - the art on ultimates 1 really does look quite a lot better than on ultimates 2
( - imnsho, of course )
