yeah I think general advice is you don't need to use any kind of 'product' in the bath till they're a couple of months old. Our HV had a rabid fixation with Johnsons products and would berate any parent who admitted to using them. We stick with infacare which is good as it's dirt cheap and lasts ages.

our midwives & health visitor all started frothing at the mouth at the very mention of johnsons baby oil ( one went so far as to say "filthy stuff" ) - they all seem gonvinced it causes skin problems in young babys - we decided not to mention we've got a litre & a half of the stuff in a cupboard upstairs ( purchased before we got their advice ) ( it'll probably remain unused for the duration )

ta for the almond oil tip - katie was two days early ( ie almost bang on time ) so i dunno what "excuse" she's got for having dry skin - when i first saw her tummy flaking a bit the day after she was born i was like "oh my god, she's got psoriasis!" ( - i have calmed down a little since then )

getting enuff sleep can be a bit problematical ( as i'm sure you're aware ) - i know they say "sleep when the baby sleeps" but it's not always possible if you want to get ANYTHING done during the day

i'm a very light sleeper so i often end up being up w/katie in the small hours ( when she wants changing or "entertaining" rather than feeding ) - katie's mum = a heavy sleeper & better at having "lie-ins", so it's less of a problem for her - also her gung ho, "can do", positive mental attitude helps, i'm sure

Chilli Oil would be a mistake....

It is amazing how quickly you forget life without children. My daughter came to us at 10 months old, with five days notice (or five years if you count from our first adoption application) Within days life without her was unthinkable.

I guess i'm a big softie
