the inner workings of the gomics gode authority is shrouded in mystery but afaik "zombies" was banned just cos of the horror gonnection - innocuous words like "weird" were also banned for a while - & marvel published a black & white mag ( allegedly for adults & therefore outside the cca's remit ) called "tales of the zombie"
if you wld like to do the meme thingy, here are my choices from yr interests: academic eminence axis-of-evil pub crawl communism gender delineation abolition hamsters hot topless left-wingers & messianic complexes
I'm ignoring your health warning and inquiring what you think of other simians and prosimians? Macaques and lemurs and their ilk. I love, btw, the word prosimian. It's like, "Yeah, were apish but we get PAID for it!"
i don't mind the little fellers but i'm a bit of a size queen when it comes to simians & gompany - imo, the bigger the better
if you do fancy a bit of meme action here are my choices from yr interests: champagne charles trenet époisses fragonard harry's bar nancy mitford & rue des abbesses
Re: apes. 1. Do you remember D.C.'s Congorilla from the 1960s?
2. A version of Disney's "The Jungle Book" is the latest stage show my wife Kim is directing with a cast of local kids. We recently rented (from the local library) a videotape of the Disney cartoon --including King Louie and the gang. (Incidentally, I think that was the last cartoon that Walt Disney was involved with before he died-- just before its release, I seem to recall. I don't think I had seen that movie in its entirety since then, when I was about 11 years old.
3. Kim is also a fan of the Planet of the Apes movies. We both respected the late, great Charlton Heston, who died very recently. ('Course, he wasn't an ape, but he was in the first "Apes" movie.)
- yet another pesky meme defeating person with no interests listed on their profile page...!
1. i remember congorilla but he's not one of my faves - from dc i prefer monsieur mallah ( from the doom patrol ), gorilla grodd & detective chimp
2. i'm not a huge disney fan but you can't go far wrong with louis prima as an orangutan - all the songs are GREAT as well
3. i like all the planet of the apes movies to varying degrees - & am also an admirer of c.heston's other sci fi outings: the omega man & ( especially ) soylent green, co-starring the great edward g robinson
Gotta fill out that profile page one of these days. Problem is, my interests can change from one day to the next!
I recall Congorilla only vaguely from the comics (Action, was it?) of my early, pre-UK childhood. Wasn't he aka Congo Bill, the hunter (a human who somehow changed into a golden ape?)
I kind of like early Disney (up to and including early 1960s, when direct Xerox photocopying of pencils was brought in for "101 Dalmatians," cut costs by laying off retracing staff, and changed the look of the cartoons.) I have several books about animated-cartoon history. Louis Prima. That's the guy. "Wanna be laka-yoo-hoo-hoo..." But "Bare (Bear) Necessities" by Phil Harris is my favorite from Jungle Book.
Soylent Green. Of course. Kim may have a VHS of that one somewhere. She was a fan of Heston's before she and I met. Also a friend of mine, a National Rifle Association member, has great respect for Mr. Heston in his role as president of that organization. (Not to start a debate on gun control or anything.)
- you're only "allowed" to put 150 interests on yr LJ profile page - not nearly enuff...!
i don't think gongo bill changed into the ape but rather his mind somehow got transferred into the gorilla body ( by a magic ring? ) & vice versa - i suspect you're right abt it being in action gomics tho but i probly only ever read congorilla in reprints - & the art or stories were never as goob as on garmine infantino or bruno premiani's apes, so i wasn't that bothered
i've got a certain fondness for disney's crappy 1970s robin hood flick, as it was the only one of theirs i saw at the cinema as a kiddy ( - also: terry-thomas as sir hiss...! ) - i wouldn't wanna watch it again nowadays tho
