the 'Beast Man' strip that Wally Wood did in early issues of Witzend (1966 on) has something to do with what they did with the Beast in the 70s. I think Sutton was the link there.

That issue of Avengers with the beast dealing with that inane apparition (something to do with The Corruptor?) is one of the greatest comics Marvel ever published - due mainly to Steve Gerber's brilliant script

- he's a bit of a beautiful bouncing bonny beast himself, innee...? ( - not that i'm in a position to griticize )

his uniform = nice & loose fitting which is how i like to see it - but is he chewing? ( - "take ten demerits, mister mccoy" sez professor x )

the aim was to make him big wihout him lookig like Fred Dukes in an X-suit - like you say, the loose sleeves and trousers help almost as muck as the overlong arms.

chewing - I can't do that Werner Roth thing with the muscles at the side of the mouth (do you know what I mean?) when the head is so small

the link with Wood's Beast Man is just an opinion of mine - Wood was freelancing for Marvel around 1970 though - perhaps he pitched his character as a 10-page feature
