Good buddy of mine went to Sierre Lione, Africa for three months serving the African Youth Movement. Another guy I worked with is president of that same organization.

He must've liked it because he's trying to go back as soon as he can afford.

The president has been there for almost two years.

something with animals, hopefully. i am looking at the you2africa programme on the 'ccusa' website. i applied to go and do the kids camp programme in america & i got a place, but i pulled out of it because it didn't really feel "right" for me. this kind of thing is definitely more up my street!
what sort of stuff were you doing over there? or just holidaying?
what is the culture/what are the people like? and what about the food? i don't eat meat so i am always a bit worried about food issues.
hopefully you wont mind answering some of these questions for me! :)

hey!

i backpacked around southern africa on my own for a month. i had an amazing time. while in south africa, i went to kruger national park, went into some townships, explored cape town and the cape of good hope, etc. it was pure holiday for me.

i am also a vegetarian, and honestly, you should have no problem. you can always find bread and cheese in a pinch. plus, since south africa is such a multi cultural country, there is loads of yummy 'ethnic' food. i had amazing thai in cape town of all places. ;)

the people are friendly enough, though slightly cautious (i am guessing that is due to the high crime rate. and btw, i had no problems with crime. but it does exist, and i never let my guard down. cape town is much safer than durban, and don't even think of walking around jo'burg by your self, even in broad daylight!!!).

where are you from? i am from the us (california), and the culture shock in south africa was much less than mozambique and other african nations i have traveled to. :)
