Robbed, While I Was in Fields

I would have only a couple of hours in San Francisco. For a long time, it's been one of my favorite American cities. I can find plenty to do with a couple of hours in San Francisco, but this time I wanted to hunt down a couple of bookstores that I know princeofcairo has recommended in the past. So I give him a call on my cell in Sacramento and he tells me where ( Read more... )

Ah, Fields. I heard about it years ago from Greg Stafford, who was probably the guy who clued in Mr. Hite. I both love it and fear it -- I wish I could win the lottery and just buy the whole place. Much of my esoteric Taoist collection comes from there (and East-Wind Books in Berkeley).

My library will soon be slowly appearing on Libary Thing, as I have the time to list them. If you haven't seen this site, check it out. So cool.

Oh, and I hate driving in San Francisco. I always use BART and cablecar now, even though my backpack becomes achingly heavy after visiting Fields and City Lights.

That's a shame about Acorn. It was handy, and although it had the distressing modern tendency to know what its books were worth, I could always count on finding something good there. Like the book by a cryptographer who proved to his own satisfaction that Queen Elizabeth wrote Shakespeare's plays.

And I'm glad the Fields haul survived the robbery, and that the Fields guy showed you the love.

Crap, man, that's unpleasent. At least you're all okay, and nothing irreplaceble got taken.

Good set of books there, though. I was once in a Dark Ages Mage game based on Egil's Saga, it's a very good read.
