I spent Saturday surrounded by about 650 excited students in grades K-12, not to mention their friends, families, teachers and coaches, at Vermont's Odyssey of the Mind contest, (102 teams, approximately 7 members per team, minus a few teams who dropped out).

How fun! I'm looking forward to my kids getting old enough to do that.

It's a real blast. The primary problem starts in first grade, so you don't have long to wait. There was one participant on Saturday who had been involved in OM(tm) for 8 years! She wasn't a senior in high school, either. There were also two 14-year-olds who couldn't find teams to belong to, so they coached younger teams. That just tells you how infectious the creativity is.

Ah, that was an eel. I was trying to remember why you made it and what exactly it was.

Your eel, your Beanie Baby rattler, your snake "bookmark" your Legos. Your hat, too, an extra from the Houston's birthday party ages ago.

What would we do without you?
