Yeah, and you think your family is normal and then you come back and look at them.... Although I will say, my family is no worse than most.
I decided long ago that Tolstoy got one thing wrong. There are no happy families, or at least, not of more than two generations or possibly four people. There has to be at least one weird, angry, neurotic, or otherwise messed-up aunt, uncle, cousin, sibling, parent who then makes everyone else crazy.
Maybe it's a wonder more of us don't become writers.
Fifteen to twenty minutes is fine, but sometimes on the weekend I have trouble getting even that in. It's the vanishing from company that is tricky. But I think I'm up for the challenge.
Not to be indelicate, but perhaps you could use the restroom as your office. If one can read there, surely one can write there as well? Or else arise or stay up 15-20 mins earlier/later?
Your first suggestion is one I have given serious thought to, but who wants to give up already limited reading time.
I may simply disappear for a bit once a day, even when we are staying with people, which we are doing a lot this winter/spring because of cleaning out a family house.
