I LOVE that moment when something just comes to me when I'm writing. I would be scared to improv act in front of people--but for writing, yes, I am a pantser, too! For me that's the part that makes it all alive.
I absolutely agree with you about writing. I forget who the author was who write that they don't outline, because once they do, they know how the project is going to turn out and that makes them lose interest.
I've also decided to try improv this fall. It means trying out for the campus troupe (and possibly being rejected by students), but if I don't try, I won't know what's possible.
I don't know who said that about outlining, but it's 100% how I feel. I used to write even my research papers first in school before going back and doing my note cards and outlines.
Thank you, this was an encouraging reminder for someone who's been trying a lot of experiments lately that have failed -- good reminder that a blank page would be worse! At least I know now that those routes aren't the right one.
