Laurie Halse Anderson (halseanderson ) tweeted this morning about teenagers who are in the hardest of places shouldn't have to wait for it to get better.

Did you see Obama's "It Gets Better" video? I don't have the link and I'm late to leave for Angela's, but it exists.

My mother once said I had beautiful eyes. I got up and looked in the mirror. It was my only compliment from her. I also saw a therapist in High School and she told me I was funny and fun to talk to. Amazing how that helped.
I was weird but pretty so people didn't bully me. I never had a date in high school either, but I have been married for 47 years. Guess I am much older than you.
I did have a couple of friends, too, but my family was full of strife and focused on the troublemakers and I was smart and good...
I like your posts.

It wasn't until I had BD that I realized my family shies away from compliments (partly a Puritan thing, partly not wanting anyone to get a swelled head).

Isn't it amazing how much a compliment here and there will help? --Thanks for appreciating my posts, and for being a loyal commenter.

I have also, over the years, found friends through a shared interest in the arts.

The arts make a huge difference for any number of people. One of my neighbors swears that the two classes that got him through school were shop and music--he later went on to patent a new mandolin design.
