Wow. You know, I was just thinking awhile ago, what if Sylar could take the powers of others without killing them. Merely temporarily killing a person, yet bring them back. Like, what would happen to Peter if Sylar took his power? Could Peter survive it?

Yeah. And then well once he took Peter's power, he wouldn't even have to cut heads open anymore, just use the sponge ability. ^_^
