All of our old computer equipment is recycled, nothing is trashed because of the high amounts of harmful things used to build them. Especially the old monitors. How is the worm research going?
Worms are on hold (as is everything else) until I find a job. I did manage to clear the biggest hurdle though - getting Trelina to agree to having a compost bin in the back yard.
oh we were able to have one of these in moline. now that we sort of have a yard here, we're going to start one again. what are you guys using for a bin?
A big plastic tub that we used to put garbage in before garbage day. They make bins specifically for composting, but from what I've read, they're expensive and unnecessary.
I saw on Dirty Jobs that I think it was the state of Ohio that has a guy who goes around and picks up the road kill. They have a facility that composts the carcasses. Very cool, dead to dirt in a few short steps.
The only problem with large scale composting like that (and this is something else I picked up from Garbageland) is that usually the organic material is picked up and hauled to the composting facility in big, smog belching diesel trucks - pretty much negating the environmental benefit from the composting.
In the case you mentioned, it's still better than hauling the carcass off to the dump, though.
