thoughts on 3.08 chuck vs the fake name

First things, I didn't hate it. Not even that scene, and while I don't enjoy that last scene either, I think on a grand scheme of things, this was a much better episode than Chuck vs. The Mask for me, since I wasn't left with a feeling of extreme dread when the end rolled by.

Because I like cupcakes, that's why! )

See, I hated those scenes, but unlike vs The Mask, it didn't seem like out of character to be, and I think that's the most important. I don't like it, but I understand the why of things. I don't know if it makes sense? It does to me.

I like the name same, but I hate that they chose it, because it's got to be the second most overused name on tv after Sarah. Which, Sarah I understood, because they needed a common name, for the whole spy thing, to sort of blend it.

So, I've said it enough I think, I do not like the name reveal, AT ALL, but I love your assessment of the scene, I think it's very true. Sarah has been seen Chuck change the past 8 episode and it's scaring the frak out of her and no one else is bothered by it. And I think it freaks her out because she doesn't know what to do. She doesn't want put in jeopardy Chuck's chance at being a spy (because he made it clear to her her choose the spy life over her and she's got this open wound in her heart that reminds her every day) but she sees how bad it's gonna turn. And she's ( ... )

I hate these missed timings that keep happening (Chuck breaking up with Hannah right when Sarah goes for Shaw) and btw, Shaw has always rubbed me the wrong way. One thing I don't get though; if Sarah avoided admitting her feelings for Chuck for so long because she doesn't want to mix business with pleasure, then how come she's doing just that with Shaw now? How come when it's someone else it's okay? I know she tried to dodge him with the same reason but it's a way more half-hearted attempt than what she did to Chuck, IMO. Or was it more because she was hurt by Chuck's decision to put work first, so it has more to do with Chuck rather than just him as someone she works with?

IMO, in the first two seasons, Sarah had been bound by the handler/asset unspoken rule (i.e they can't get together because it'll be too dangerous). Chuck even said it in 2.02, when he asked her why she could be Bryce's lover while remaining his partner and she can't do the same for him. In fact, every single time it seems like Chuck was going to stop being her asset, she'd cashed in on her all-in chip (in First Date, First Kill/Colonel, even Pink Slip). Hell, even Alias did it with S/V until Phase One! When he uploaded the Intersect again (to be the hero that he thinks she wants him to be), she tried to pull him away from this dark path by asking him to run with her. Instead, he broke her heart and didn't explain anything for six months. So it really isn't a matter of Chuck by himself, it's more of his status with regards to their positions at work and what kind of danger it posed, and by the time it got less dangerous, she had her heart broken and stomped on by him.

I agree with basically everything you said here. I'm so glad I'm not the only person who didn't hate this episode. Yeah it wasn't my favorite, but for all the reasons that you mentioned I'm glad it went down the way it did ( ... )

Omg yes Shaw is creepy! That's the word! I just knew I didn't like him, but I couldn't think of how to describe it.

And yeah I'm totally sure Sarah was looking at Chuck when she thought she was going to die, and when she opened her eyes... It's really subtle and I think if you weren't watching closely you would have missed it.

And random, but I liked how the real Rafe noticed how Chuck was kinda looking at Sarah even when he was choking, and went over to deal with Sarah as a result. As a (crazy) shipper, I'm like, even the random villain noticed! Not to mention Jeff's observation that there's a light in Chuck's eyes when he's with Sarah... :) And yeah, Casey's the #2 Chuck/Sarah shipper on the show! I'm guessing it's cos he doesn't like Shaw too much, haha.

Lastly, I have to say that I LOVED the part where Sarah was looking at the video surveillance of the dinner with Awesome and Ellie... The wistful look on her face was just whoa. Then Shaw had to come in and brag about his chicken. Pffft.
