Veteran's Day (and day 11)

Nov 11, 2009 11:25

The meaning behind Veteran's Day is fantastic. It's a moment to celebrate Veteran's and the peace they fought and continue fighting for. But once that war is over, we, (at least Americans) have a habit of forgetting about them until once a year. Death tolls are to be ignored, photos are to be denied and the actual cost to these men and women are ( Read more... )

<3 I just hate that we celebrate this one day, have a giant pep rally and then go back to pretending that the guy on the street probably chooses to be homeless and could get a home anytime he wants.

Homeless issues are one of my soapboxes (and I only have so few :P). Plus, working for a non-profit tells me just how much all those five dollar donations mean because that's about what we get at work and it supports us throughout the year.

And..... I'll jump back off that soapbox now :D <3

love, you don't have to tell me. I'm sitting here researching an article for a PAC I'm working with to defeat our congressmen in the next election and he's voted against additional funding for EVERYONE including veterans. Preach on, all you want. *joins you on the soapbox*

<3 We're gonna need a bigger soapbox, methinks.

I wish I could defeat my senator somehow but, considering he's John Fucking McCain, I somehow doubt that that'll ever happen.

I just get so annoyed and upset when I see people thinking that the system of healthcare we have now is adequate. It's not or else these guys wouldn't be dying. If our healthcare was good enough, we'd be able to help treat the mental illness and help them. Instead, we pat them on the head, maybe host a ceremony and then send them on their way with a "so long, thanks for all the fish" message.

I can't believe people would vote against ... wait, yes I can.
