The 1950 Olds is rare and I have not seen a Studebaker Starliner in quite sometime! You know Edsiels are not so ugly now they look just like other cars of the period!
The one that strikes a chord for me in this series is the Chrysler Turbine (copper colored coupe above)
Chrysler built about 50 of them in the early 60's and put them out into the 'real world' with families and friends of Chrysler employees to test the reliability and viability of the turbine engine.
We lived in Wilmington, Delaware when I was little. I was already a big car enthusiast when one of our neighbors, an engineer at the Newark Delaware Assembly Plant took me out for a ride in one. It was a thrill of a lifetime. I remember the 'rocketship' sound - which is described nowadays as more like a vacuum cleaner-type sound!
Most of those prototypes were completely destroyed after the test period. Only a handful were saved. Chrysler has one (naturally) as does Jay Leno....
That is so cool, Dan! This was part of a small group that the National Museum of Transport which is out on the edge of the county brought in for the show. Neato!
