Yes..the danger of foot infection..which escalates to gangrene ..is an issue..especially for long term diabetics...where the foot nerves no longer give a warning about a cut or splinter or a nail puncture...and poor circulation prevents healing of simple wounds
The best defense is to keep the A1c as low as possible...as close to 6.0 as possible...and always wear, indoor and outdoors..foot protection...slippers, shoes, etc. Also don't allow nails to get so long that they split, crack and bleed...and watch the area between the toes for cuts. Trim them regularly and properly?.and inspect your feet at least once a day..for wound that you can't feel...have even the slightest cut attended to with anti biotics
I was trying to scare. But its true. ANd I have seen a few lose their legs over a simple infection
If you are a new diabetic...you probably don't have much to worry about...It's as the years go by..when diabetes eventually weakens the circulation in the extremities...and the sense of feeling lessens as well. That's when infections set in. When you cant notice that you just cut yourself..and the cut festers.
Always check the feet..even if everything feels OK
Good idea...that's not a bad idea at all. i can clip them, but yeah, a good idea. And yeah, i knew that, but the whole balance thing is a new angle. Damn, this is weird shit.
