re: It was all over CNN and the republicans were having none of it
What dismayed me about the 1993 effort was that the ringleader was a homophobic Democratic Senator from Georgia, Sam ("none for Nunn") Nunn, Without Nunn's anti gay posturing, Clinton could have simply issued an executive order (no congressional approval would have been required) Congress only got involved to insure that the DADT compromise was made into a law...and would withstand future executive orders to undo it. The rest is history. Glad it's over
yes you look good with more meat on yer bones I agree with timbearuk.... hey Woofer...that Balkans stuff was a hard gig but needed to be cleaned up so thanks mate... and "lie down with dogs" is a great track!!!
Thanks, guys. Yes, a long time coming and like integration, the military has a tendancy to both follow and lead the country. Maybe not snowball, but let's hope more than glacial.
The one questions I do have about the repeal is will it stick? We are hearing about a lot of sexual harassment/abuse of female soldiers will we find the unreported bashing and harrasment of Gay troops show up buried in reports that surface in 10 years?
I am glad to see it gone, but I also know the military is a self protecting organization that does not always work with much transparency on issues that might embarrass it.
The thing is that up to now, gay bashing couldn't even be reported. There will still be issues, just like with anything, but having a bit of experience, it will be for the best. Nothing is perfect, but since you won't have to worry about telling your supervisors that you got your ass beat because your a homo and having them kick YOU out and not the beater will be better for everyone.
