Not the IRS, I decided not to physically file my taxes for 2001 and 2002, because I was getting refunds in the amount of about $25 each year.
In 2004 I got a love letter from the IRS saying that I owed them $5000, $2500 for each year, including interest and penalties. I wrote them back and said figure it again, and they decided to levy my paycheck.
I had been using Turbo Tax for many years, so I had the actual forms on file. I printed them out and sent them in. Not only did I get a letter of release, but they also ended up paying my past refund, with interest, just because they tried to make me pay for something I didn't owe. (BTW, you can get a refund up to 3 years after the April 15th deadline, but they don't want you to know that)
I have been using Turbo Tax for the past 10 years at least, before that I did them myself with a pen and a calculator. From 1989 to 1992, I used H & R Blockheads, but then in 1992, the worse thing in the world that could happen occured. I was Audited by the IRS for tax years 90 and 91. I was 21, and luckily I had been studying law in college. I went to the audit, which was totally fucked up, and walked away with a letter of apology, which I have framed somewhere. Basically, H & R Blockheads, did not have a designation in thier computer at the time for "Nephiew" or "Neice", as they pertain to relatives. The regulations say that you can claim them as dependents if you supported them, like I did for those years. They decided to code them as "Foster Children", which sent up a red flag at the IRS for them to check that I did indeed support them for the entire year. Suffice to say I won, but in 1994, I got a notice that they were auditing me again (for the 1992 filing), luckily they sent a 'notice of
