Hey, I just got a Treo this past Saturday afternoon.
I'm still a newbie to the whole smartphone thing, but I found the website "everythingtreo.com" which has a forum with classified ads for folks getting rid of older models of the phone. You might try there.
My contract with Verizon was up, and they had offered me $100 in credit towards an updated phone. Since I need some device that would let me edit documents "on the fly" as I rode back and forth to work on the "L," I went with the Treo because it had built-in MSWord and MSExcel mobile versions. I got a Treo 700wx. The cost was $299 with a new 2 year contract, with another $100 off with a rebate form that I need to send in shortly.
I still haven't synched it with my home computer yet - but I plan on doing that shortly.
I have the 650 and have had no issues with it. I'm on ATT/Cingular and actually got a refurbed one from them for $100. My partner sluggobear had the 750 or 700w and ended up going through 8 of them because they kept crashing. He had to reset every single day, sometimes twice a day. When he synched it with his outlook, it would go wonky. After 8 brand new ones over the course of a year or so, he ended up getting the new Q cuz he was losing his mind with the 700w, or 750 cuz it was so unstable.
I'd reccomend staying with the 650. If I remember correctly, it was the last model to have the palm software, and if that is what Matt is used to, then seems like it's a good fit.
Just about anything. It would crash when he attempted to synch it, or when he was texting, or taking a picture. The sad thing was, all of the ones he got (even brand new) had the same things continually happen. I remember one time the machine actually fucked up his Outlook calendar on his home pc....lord the shitstorm that occured from that....lol
This is blachubear's husbear. I'm not sure which Treos use Palm or Windows software. I do know the 700p uses Palm software. It is like the 700w but runs Palm software instead of Windows (e.g. 320x320 display, 64MB RAM, etc)
I have the 700p and my husbear (blachubear) has the 650. I find the 700p be very stable, just like the 650.
