Doing my Civic Duty...

Secured my right to bitch about politics this morning...

(I'm not going to lecture anyone about not voting...  I honestly believe that the country would be a better place if people who weren't interested in voting and therefore weren't educated in who to vote for...  Weren't pressured into voting.  I'm just curious.)

Poll Election Day...

poll, voting

Having just relatively arrived in DeKalb, i know nothing of local policy or politics. Like you said, if I were to vote today, I would be picking them based on the cutest name... and despite appearances, I'm not retarded all the time.

I've devised a neat method for rating my candidates.

I have 5 major issues that I pick in each election. In the election, I rate people on a 5 point scale, with 1 being against my issue and 5 being for my issue, and the middle ground being areas between.

For incumbent candidates, I subtract 2 points for each issue if their actions are in opposition with their statements.

After all this, I'll have a score of between 5 and 25. If it's the primaries, I'll vote for the highest score.

If it's the general election, I'll vote for the highest score IF it is above 15. If it's not, I simply won't vote.

It's my way of justifying whether or not it is worth voting.

It's one thing to say that I'm not going to vote because it's picking the lesser of two evils. It's another to see that, yes, I have quantifiable evidence that it IS picking the lesser of two evils.

I've decided that I need to put my support to things I like, and withdraw it from things I do not.

I must have missed something, what are we voting for?

And this is exactly why I'm not voting today. I'm not an informed voter for the races going on.

And that is why I don't have an issue with people not voting. I would rather that the informed few make intelligent choices and not be drowned out by the uninformed masses.

Well... In short, everyone except the president?

The big ones of course, being the Governor of Illinois as well as Federal and state Senators.

Thankfully, the local papers here take the time to review each and every one of those judges, providing a comprehensive list of their qualifications.
