A long review of Unavowed and its moral dilemmas

Stan the muse

Yeah, I'm really not sure. What I really want to do is give Stan a chance, but if he doesn't keep improving, then decide what the best solution is (and I'm not clear on the trade-offs, how bad not having a muse is, how much if any better Calliope was at the job, if she would reluctantly accept it again if it were really needed or not).

Robin the fae and the baby

Agh! Yes. I think I would have gone for agreement on the grounds of "if I don't have time to think about it, not getting the baby killed is better" and "something may rescue the situation later, or I may find a loophole, but death is forever"

But there's some good arguments the other way. One is, never giving into blackmail whatever the stakes, for the benefit of all future potential victims. And I agree, "what will their life with Robin be like" is a consideration, but I'll not decide death is preferable unless I'm really sure -- lots of people grow up in terrible situations but end up with a life worth living somehow.

Oh, yes, I meant to mention the "don't give in to blackmail" principle when making the original post. Thanks ( ... )
