I'm with you 100% on this, sistah. I don't tolerate the "drop-by" - I mean, I change into my jammies pretty early in the evening. Everyone is obligated to call first.

My mom has a policy that if someone isn't invited, they don't get inside the house. She'll chat with them briefly outside but that's all they get. I don't even answer the door at all often - it's mostly salespeople anyway.

There are different cultures, though. I remember talking to a couple from Newfoundland, though. There the culture is a bit different - you were considered unfriendly if you even locked your door! People come and go all DAY - ahhh, I'm from Toronto and I don't think so.

AUGHHHH THAT SOUNDS HORRIFIC. How do introverts, much less people with social anxiety, even survive in a culture where that's the norm? I would have to. I don't know. Go hide in a little hermit house in the mountains. But then there would be bugs and I'd just be terrorized by those instead.

See I consider myself to be fairly extroverted, but I still would never dream of just RANDOMLY dropping by someone's pad. Seriously, who does that!? And why do they think it's okay?

And "the trap" oh god lol. I KNOW PEOPLE LIKE THAT. 8|

I eventually decided that if someone is going to be rude enough to ignore my personal space and boundaries, I will just smile and tell them nicely that I can't talk now, goodbye, and then close the door, or ignore them. They can have my time when they have the courtesy to respect my needs. :|

There's an old friend that used to do this to me. I don't think trying to close the door on him would have even WORKED. He's always been kinda crazy. Fortunately at the time I had more fortitude for dealing with that sort of thing, and also, he didn't live nearby for long, so that stopped being an issue.

I have like

four people who have drop-in rights and who give me drop-in rights. Two of them are related to me.

Anybody else?

NONONONONONO. NO, I'M SORRY, YOU ARE NOT MY RELATIVES OR MAYA OR PERRI. NO.

Pretty much NOBODY has drop in rights for me. Unless it's Dave (who, I mean, LIVES with me), I don't want to see ANYONE unless I am mentally prepared to face humanity.

My parents get a sorta half pass over this b/c sometimes they really need to ask me something and they always TRY to call first, I just don't always hear and sometimes don't answer even if I do. (And I mean, as long as I have a bra on I don't really care if they see me looking like a zombie.) Although quite frequently when they do this it wasn't actually urgent. =_=;

Man, it's polite to call first, period. You've no idea if they might be busy or having an off-day or what. I don't understand the sort of people that thinks it's just fine to inconvenience somebody randomly.
