Hell, they could have picked non-blonde kids for katara and sokka and it would have been less offensive.

I haven't been following it very closely, but just seeing pictures of the casting choices is frustrating.

"Hey we're making a movie of this cartoon. Who should we cast for these brown haired brown eyed and brown skinned kids?"
"How about these pale blondies?"
"BRILLIANT!"

fffffffffffffffff

Oh you're right, I should have remembered that. WATER. BLUE.

But yeah. There's a macro I've seen on 4chan at /co/ where they have Sokka, Katara, and Zuko all in a row on the top as cartoons and then below with the movie casting, with the labels "HERO, HERO, VILLAIN" pointing out that the only "brown" one in the casting is now the villain. Godddddamn.

Not that most people didn't already know Shyamalan was a hack after The Happening, but now it's thoroughly confirmed.

The movie's probably still gonna make bank though.

I'm still hoping (probably in vain) that it will fail. But even though fandom is making such a stink, there will probably be a lot of people going to see it who don't even realize what's been done to the original text or who don't even notice that hey, brown people were turned white, somehow. It's just such a common thing to happen.

Not gonna see it. Gonna actively discourage friends from seeing it. Same's I did with that TV travesty that tried to call itself Earthsea.

There's just no words for the bullshit the media is doing to try and give reason for this. I don't get offended by stuff often, if at all, but I just can't ignore how... UGH this is.

Thanks to you and Chira for posting this.

I've never even watched this show before and I've been roughly following this, especially a few months ago when the casting was being done, and it still pisses me off.

I can't beleive all the shit they're doing here and how it's sad to say, but people really will eat this up and go see the movie anyway. I've seen the complaints people make about this show "not really being all that influenced by asia anyway." Wut.

Oh well, I do know that I won't be seeing this movie and I doubt any of my friends will either.

Fans of Twilight bitched Robert Pattinson wasn't beautiful enough to play Edward. They still saw the movie and still buy the t-shirts and they will go see New Moon.

Fans of Avatar aren't any different. They're just a bit quieter.

Difference here is that what Hollywood is doing is a disgrace. Thanks for knocking down the American image another few notches. Thanks for proving racism is still abounds thanks to stupid fucks like this. Ugh.
