Chinese New Year!

If you are celebrating the lunar New Year, I hope you enjoy your holiday and time off work.

This monkey is part of the (16thC?) plasterwork in the old court (as in court-room) area of Chirk Castle in Wales;  I visited the castle (and took the photo) last year on one of my Northerly trips. The 蟠桃 long life peach does not appear in the original; I ( Read more... )

What a splendid monkey! He does look pleased to find himself holding the peach of immortality.

Thank you! There is a more pleasing version of this greeting using, for the right-hand text, the same red/pink as appears in the peach but writing to someone in red ink in China has BAD connotations (grandparents say that it signifies that you never want to see the person you are addressing ever again i.e. it is a superstition like not walking under a ladder or putting shoes on a table) so I have used green for the public picture.

I am getting better at finding the wonder in more ordinary places - a camera can teach this, I think.

in canada it is also family day weekend, two reasons to celebrate, we had a sunny spring day today. the monkey must be happy!

Thank you! 2016 has been OK so far apart from the usual occasional flare-up of standard winter sinusitis. Supposed to be colder here tonight though - down to -7C locally.
