Saying it with cake!

Here is one of the latest creations in the window of the cake shop in Oxford's Covered Market, a cake in the form of Tom Tower, the entrance to Christ Church College, famous as the "home" of Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter (well, Hogwarts):

lovely cake! and I bet it tastes great too. Sorry your weather was bad, it was bitter cold here, good day to stay in with hot chocolate.

Hello! I've never had the opportunity to try eating any of the cakes from this shop but the decorations are spectacular. You can imagine how much stuff - hearts, roses - they have for Valentine's Day!

We continue to have absurd amounts of rain here; you've probably seen on the BBC that the rail lines to Cornwall are out entirely and half of Somerset is under water. The rain quantities aren't abnormally heavy but the wet has continued so long that the aquifers are full, the ground is saturated and there's just nowhere for the water to go. Even in Oxfordshire, low lying areas (fields, gardens, roads) have turned into small local lakes. On the other hand, it hasn't been too cold. Your temperatures would just make me ill, I'm sure. Keep up the hot chocolate treatment!

Woah! That's a cake?!! It's a pity to eat that nice~

Still having awful weather, huh. Here, it's gotten hot now. Pretty much back to normal... the start of summer. Hope the skies clear up at where you are.

Yes, they say it's a cake and, as the shop is a cake shop, I guess they ought to know! I think you'd need to burrow down through quite a lot of icing and sugar though, before you reached any cake :=)

Glad your temperature have recovered. We continue to suffer high winds, high tides and a ridiculous amount of rain. One part of the country (Cornwall in the south-west) has no railways working because the lines are damaged by the storms and the whole of that south-west area has bad flooding. Most of my area is OK - wet but not flooded - and the temperatures are mild; however, more rain and wind is forecast for next week when I need to go to London for work.

Winter always feel too long to me so I smiled at your comment about "the start of summer" - in February! We'll warm up in about July. If we're lucky.

Impressive. Love your pics from the cake shop. I don't think I would want to cut into something so grand; and often they look a lot better than they taste...

Cutting into this wouldn't be so good, would it? It is asking for proper demolition with a mini ball and chain!

I've never had the chance to try eating anything this special. I don't have an oven to bake a cake myself and the ones that I do try (e.g. in a tea shop or café) are much more humble. I'm sure this confection is probably protected under our Listed Building laws!

A work of genius!

Slightly mad genius. You have to wonder whether there is a scale model of every Oxford college, loving rendered in sponge and icing, in an attic somewhere...

You could be right. There is probably a Very Secret Society dedicated to the clandestine colouring and construction of Cake Monuments. This group of auteurs could be known as Cake Realité (Unique Model Buildings) or CRUMB. I will look out for them in attics.
