Maybe You Should Judge a Book by its Cover

I also judge books by their covers--although I have happened across some books with bad covers that I adore.

Fighting against a cover is extremely difficult for an author because it's not under their jurisdiction, but the publisher's. It's a rarely fought battle, and even rarer won.

Sometimes I wonder if the cover artists even read the darn books. >.

Very true. It annoys me though. Publishers should want covers that accurately depict the contents of the books. At least I would want that if I were a publisher. And I've heard that lots of cover artists are given a brief understanding of the book, but don't read it. I agree it would be a hard battle to fight, but I still think that it's not right.

Mm. There was a huge controversy over Justine Larbalestier's Liar book cover. A book about an African-American girl with nappy hair? Changed to a white girl.

...yeah. There's an interesting article on it and other cover controversies.
