Henry David Thoreau - “The man who goes alone can start today; but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready.”

That is one of my favorite quotes because it reminds me to believe in myself and have confidence in my abilities.   It also reminds me that if I want to be a leader I have to be willing to go it alone. If I must wait ( Read more... )

question: doesn't a leader need other people to lead?

No not at all. Taking an example to the extreme, a person stranded on a deserted island would have a better chance of survival if they exhibited the skills of a leader. In that case, they would be leading or directing them self.

i still think if its one person alone it is survival skills.. you need people to show leadership skills with.. and the skills are different because a lot have to do with how you interact with people and can get them to do stuff. i also think the one that waits and leads people is more noble because not everybody can make it on their own and they're patient enough to wait and be there for others.. totally off the point of why you liked the quote i know, but i just felt like enjoying a blabber-fest :P
