I relate to this so much! This is a beautiful post and makes me teary.... seeing someone with a best friend from SECOND grade all these years later? That's so amazing, and one of the most valuable gifts life can give you.

Did you ever notice how our society places so much emphasis on romantic relationships, marriage, etc- and genuine friendships get overlooked? I never understood that. I've always sought after "movie" friendships, the kinds you see on sitcoms and in films where people span decades and have a deep understanding of each other. The kind of friendships, where, like you said- you can not hear from someone in five years and still pick up where you left off. It's one of the best things in life to have friends who are there for you, even when you disappear for a decade isn't it???? I love this post, and since the topic is up, I just have to say I have gratitude in my heart for you and our LJ friendship that is withstanding the test of time.

My friend and his friendship is deeply precious to me. I have a lot of gratitude for him.

I have noticed that about friendships. My reaching out to my second grade friend was inspired by this episode of invisibia that speaks on the very thing you’re talking about: “https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/invisibilia/id953290300?i=1000540811928”
