Summer Reading

I've read several books this month. I started reading the Kinsey Millhone series by Sue Grafton. I'd read a couple here and there, but I wanted to read them all. And since I'm a touch OCD, I have to read them in order! I read A is for Alibi last week and B is for Burglar this week. They're pretty good. The series started in the mid-80s though, so I ( Read more... )

I can answer your question about the Kinsey Milhone series: Z is going to end in 1990 I think, and Kinsey will be 40, I think? Or whatever would be the right age. People are getting annoyed about the later books because there is no new technology, but my only beef with them has to do with point of view stuff that doesn't work for me.

I think having them stay true to time period is probably better than if she was suddenly the same age in the present. Also, I find it fascinating to see a detective work without all of the technological bells and whistles we've all been indoctrinated to thanks to CSI. You know? There's something admirable about the "old school."

Has Sue Grafton said what will happen after Z?

I think she'll be done with the series after Z--She'll be in her mid 70s by then. I don't know for sure, though. That's the last I heard.
I do really like the series, and I like the chronology of it as well.
My mom and her friend co-authored a book that is a biography of Kinsey in addition to being an analysis of Grafton's writing. The paperback version includes through "P" I think, but since Grafton switched publishers they haven't updated since then. It's called "G is for Grafton." :)

Oh cool!!! So you have an "in" on these books. :) That is so rad. :)

Maybe she'll continue to write, though. Elizabeth Peters is pretty up there and she's still writing.

Ready for the polls. I need help finding stuff to read; I usually let the book-of-the-month (paperback version) just send me whatever. But I think I might just look for the Grafton books in the library, that will be a nice long reading project.

That's what I was thinking. :)

Alright. I'm ready to resume the polls, too.
