I love the way Jocelyn and Grigg met, too. the whole thrust of their relationship cracked me up.
It seemed to be more about these little glimpses into these people's lives, how they came together and bounced off each other and affected each other, rather than having an actual plot.
I didn't mind the ending so much. It was the kind of ending that we have in life, in that there really aren't any clear endings. Things happen, people come together into each other's lives and then they go their seperate ways and lose track of each other again. It's so much like life for me, and I think the ambiguity is supposed to show that.
For me, I like both, depending on the story, and I don't think wrapping everything up tidely would have worked with this book. Besides, if an ending's a little open, then I can imagine what happens to them next. :)
You are right that this book was not really meant for a tidy tie up ending, I just prefer it when it's all laid out. I think it's because I read to escape life, so I don't always want my books to mirror it. :) LOL
