Kinect, is it any good?

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have a Kinect and is it any good?
I am really unsure about getting one or if I'll end up using it much if it just ends up being buggy. I know that with something like this you just have to expect some bugs.
If you DO have one, what games do you have for it?

xbox, kinect

I don't have one but my brother was bragging about it because his friend has one. he said it works wonderfully and that it even recognizes you by facial structure.

Really? cool.

I've heard a lot of mixed feelings about it online, don't actually know anyone that has one. cousin is getting Playstation move but that's not the same thing :P

My brother told me that you can set it up so that it turns on when you walk into the room.

My brother has one, and I've watched him play it a few times and joined in once or twice. It's not terrible, and the facial recognition is very cool, but the games that require specific limb movement look really jumpy onscreen. Dance Central is good, but Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports seem to be a hit or miss for most people. Miss for me! Lots of people really enjoy it, though, so if possible I'd advise you try someone else's before you commit to buying just to see what you think.

I wish I did have the opportunity to do that.

I think I'll just wait a bit before I get one. But I do want to try it, my second cousin said that zumba thing or whatever it's called (for kinect) was great. Alas, I am not in America and can not go to their house and try it out :/

That's what I fear is going to happen with me, play it a couple of times and watch it while it gathers dust.

Maybe buy camera stuff instead? Y/Y? I should get some filters and cleaning equipment for my lenses..... Must decide...

Yeah, camera stuff IS cool. And I do love my camera very much. It sucks that it snows all the time or I'm at work so I can't go out and use it :(

The Kinect is surprisingly amazing; Kinectimals and Dance Central are loads of fun. Of course it's a little buggy, but it's way more accurate than the Wii's sensor/controller.

So that's two votes for dance central so far. This is not good for the person that can not dance to save her life.

I do expect a few bugs since it's so new and all. Would be weird if there weren't any at all.

I'm personally a dancer and I was impressed by the choreography on the higher difficulty levels, but the fun thing about Dance Central is that the whole list of songs is organized by difficulty, so you can work your way up to harder things if you so wish. Either way, it's a fun game. :D I got my ass kicked on some of the harder songs and it's still fun to flail.

Well if a dancer says it's nice and had fun with it then person that fails at dancing certainly wont hate it and might even learn something XD

Does anyone know if Kinect actually works with dark skinned people in normally lit rooms who aren't wearing bleached white clothing?

In my experience, as long as the room is well-lit, it's fine. I did however try playing in a slightly dimmed room (at a party) and even though I was wearing a bright-ish shirt, it had some seriously annoying problems "seeing" me. I think the overall light matters more than clothing.

What if the room is normally lit and a dark skinned person is wearing dark clothes? I don't think I should have to paint my walls a reflective white, put in fluorescent bulbs, and change my wardrobe just to play video games. The issues with picking me up are something I'm genuinely concerned about. Especially, considering the price point.

It should be fine; at least it was fine with me when I was dressed in black, and even at full lighting that room was still kinda dim. I didn't have any problems until the lights were significantly dimmed.

Your sn is amazing, by the way.
