Lifetime Ban for Sexist Comments

Nov 06, 2012 18:02

A lot of people, perhaps teenage boys, don't realize that 343 Industries and Halo 4 are run by women. You only have to start playing the game to realize there is a heavy female presence in this game.

I am ready to do my part in reporting any sexist and/or discriminatory comments.

I'm not even Halo and I've never really played any of the others but I've already secured my Blops2!

Also The Sims 3 Seasons comes out the same day! AH! lol

Any thoughts on how you think this will or will not work? disgruntledgrrl November 7 2012, 00:27:02 UTC
Let's face it, some alone will be traumatized at the revelation that women gamers are behind their game.

Will it deter? Only if it actually is enforced.

Lifetime ban? No. Not a good idea. This will destroy their fan base. It should be a month ban with a possible mark on the account. A notation that comes up when they try to connect to online games "You are still in time out due to remarks you were advised not to make." so it can apply to racism as well.

I hope they have a means of capturing this proof because money is spent on Xbox Live. No one handles a ban well after spending money. If anything to show the parents that attempt to lawyer up.

But a Lifetime ban should be worked up to. 5 bans and then they're outta there.

I agree with this. I life time ban is too harsh. What if your a-hole friend gets on and screws around on your account. There should be some sort of mark on your account like they have for chronic rage-quitters.

I've never heard of this. How do they know if you're a chronic rage-quitter? When you leave in the middle of game? Because I get bumped offline and out of games quite often. How do they know the difference between being bumped or loosing your internet and rage-quitting?

I believe it depends on how often you dc over a certain period of time. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the intimate details, but I've seen a few players with this mark while playing UMvC 3.

I'm confused reading these posts (I have seen it popping up for about a week) because I don't see anything that actually states that this is a new policy? Headlines are like "Hey now we're lifetime banning people!" but the articles don't seem to support that anything has actually changed in the policies.

ie ...said there is zero tolerance... implies that this is a policy that has been in place, isn't a new one etc? Which I'd believe but then I wouldn't necessarily believe that it is actually being enforced.

That said, people love to embrace the idea that sexism is a part of gamer culture (fighting game community people have actually said this, SMH) and I think that's bullshit, so if this is a new policy and will actually be enforced... awesome.

Hubby is the Halo fan of the family here. I just informed him that women run 343 Studios and his thought on it is "Badass! That's awesome" He's so cute sometimes.

I have been enjoying watching him play though and I might dabble in it at some point.

They have to do something about it. The general atmosphere of online play drives away millions of potential customers. The mouthbreathing kiddies are costing them money (those in the 35+ range spend far more per consumer on consoles and games) and they're finally getting serious about shutting that shit down.

I can only approve.

I'm 52 and I play Call of Duty online but never with a headset. Until recently. I was looking for a clan that wasn't in to competing, just playing for fun and found a web site online that is for adults only. You have to be over 18 years old to join. They are wonderful!
