Steam emulator?

Today, I got The Orange Box in the mail. I am yet to play the infamous Portal, and I'm very excited to get my hands on it. However, I need internet connection to install Steam and the game, but I dont' have internet! I'm not interested in multiplayer, just single player, thank you

The only way around this is by illegally cracking the game so it'll run without Steam.

I'm willing to do that. I legally bought the game; I just want to get around Steam.

Well, you can download and use steam once, then arrange for your game to be played in offline mode, then never use steam again. Unfortunately, you have to connect just that once to get it to work offline. Odd, I know.
