One more Xbox 360 Question.

If you have an Xbox that doesn't have built in wifi, do you HAVE to get the stupidly expensive Xbox wifi receiver or will a standard one work? I have a wireless router so getting a signal won't be an issue, so I'm just wondering if I should order the wifi adapter when I get the 360 or if I can go for something cheaper instead. I do this as well. It's easy to just connect the router through your Xbox, so you don't have to spend any extra money!

Yeah, at my house we opted to run a networking cable from our router to the Xbox. A lot cheaper and works just fine.

Yeah, I've seen people try to use off-brand wireless receivers, and they aren't compatible. In the least. In my seven months working tech support for them, I never came across a customer who bought one that worked. It's literally either run a cable, or pay for their dumb name brand receiver.

I'm running a crossover ethernet cable to my laptop and I'm sharing the wireless connection from my laptop to the 360. Works just fine and I usually have my laptop around when I'm playing video games anyway for wiki'ing purposes so it's also convenient.

You need to use one that's specifically compatible with the 360, any old USB dongle won't work.

I know a 3rd party did make something that worked with the 360 a few years ago, it was like $40-$60 or something... it's been so long I don't remember the price, and have no idea if it's even in production anymore.

If you can, just run an ethernet cable to the 360 if you can.
