PS3 Issues

Jun 19, 2011 19:37

I've had my PS3 for a little over 4 years now and two days ago, while I was playing Heavy Rain for trophies, right after I got a trophy my PS3 shut off on it's own. I tried turning it back on, which it appeared (at first) to do so but it quickly flashed a yellow light, then beeped like 3 times then a red light started flashing. I've done some ( Read more... )

I have had issues with playing Heavy Rain as well. Nothing quite like yours, which I offer my most heartfelt condolences for, but when I play my PS3 freezes up a lot. I don't know why it happens, but just know you're not alone in the Heavy Rain issue department.

My friend's PS3 had (still has, actually) the yellow light of death. She contacted Sony and, yeah, hard drive problem. :( HER friend said he might be able to fix it for her, but if he can't, it's off to Sony for the fix. I'm assuming that's the safer route.

Yeah's it's definitely the safer route. I'm just worried how much its going to cost since the warranty expired so long ago =(

It's the PS3 equivalent of the RROD. It's dying and either get a new one or call up Sony. Back up your saves first because Sony will likely give you a refurbished model instead of fixing yours.

How can I back up my files? Sorry, I'm super newbie when it comes to technology like that hehe =)

You can back them up using USB stick or portable HDD. Another option is if you opted for a Plus account you can back them up on Sony's servers.

Ok I'll try that.
I only signed up for the Plus account with the whole welcome back package. So after the 30 days is up, just in case it takes longer than that to get my PS3 up again or buy a new one, my stuff wont be on the Sony servers anymore??

The YOD (yellow light of death) is a pretty common issue for older PS3s. My ex's original launch PS3 started giving him the trouble a few months back and it just got worse and worse until it became practically unplayable.

If I recall, it had something to do with the PS3 not having great ventilation, which eventually leads to cracks in the solder on the motherboard.

He was able to prolong it's life a little bit by doing a bunch of different stuff (idk something that involved using a hot gun on the motherboard and some liquid, etc), but it eventually kicked the bucket a few weeks ago. You might be able to search around and find a place that might be able to fix the problem.

I found a guy on youtube that shows how to repair it, using a hot gun and such like how u were saying. I'm just scared that I'll mess it up since I'm not experienced with that kind of stuff whatsoever.

I'm just wondering if its better to just buy a new PS3 or just try to get it fix or try to fix it myself.

The hot gun fix never really fixed it, it just prolonged it's life a little. Personally, I'd try to find someone who might be able to repair it and if that doesn't work. probably time to get a new one.

My friend gave me a # to a place, a store I'm guessing, that fixes consoles. I think that maybe my alternate route if I don't end up going thru Sony...and if not I might just get a new one.
If I could only get my Heavy Rain disk out...=(

this same thing happen to a friend,he try to fix it cuz sony said it will cost like 150 USD if I don't remember wrong, because his warranty had expire, he thought about it and in the end bought a new PS3. You should contact sony, it's the safest option and see what they say.

I think I may be in the same boat as him. I'm debating getting another one or having it fix. It's just that, if I do have it fixed, I'm wondering if how long it'll live after that.
*sigh*

Doesn't matter how long it will live if you do send it for repair. You won't get your PS3 back, you'll get a refurbished model of whatever you sent in.
