DS Lite Issue

Jun 15, 2011 18:05

I'm hoping someone here can help me, or at least point me in the right direction. I tried the technology forum over on Gaia Online and was rather bluntly told that without handling the system they couldn't help me. T_T

A few days ago my 8 yr old cousin had apparently dropped a spring in the DS game slot. I don't know if this is true or not, because ( Read more... )

...With the flashlight I can gather that there are about 4 little gold prongs that are standing up...

I'm looking at my DS lite now and there are a lot more than 4 contacts in the system, and they're all in the exact same position. Are you you saying that there are some that are possibly bent out of shape? If that's the case that's probably why the cart isn't sitting properly in the slot, and isn't getting recognized by the system.

Yeah, with the flashlight there's about 4 of them that look like they've been pulled outwards; the rest sit parallel with the system.
Is there a way I can set them back the way they're supposed to be myself? I know the cartridge is supposed to snap into place, but if this is what's keeping it from sticking I want to see if I can fix it.

The site I linked in the reply to the other comment has replacement DS Lite parts. It looks like they have a tutorial on how to replace the card slot here: http://www.nintendorepairshop.com/blogs/DS-Lite-Game-Slot-Repair/

They also mention that they have a mail-in repair service, if you're afraid of mucking up the system doing it yourself.

I would try another set of screwdrivers, nintendo specific ones (you can find them on ebay)

Call some of your local electronic stores or check on kijiji/craigslists for people who can fix game consoles? I know when my ps2 disc drive was being silly, a local place was able to fix it for me (it was far past its warranty...they charged me $10) They were not licensed by sony but oh my gosh that brick of a thing still works and is going strong years later!

Like artistic_g4m3r said it also might be prongs bent out of shape (perhaps the cousin accidentally threw something in there that wasnt a cartridge or jammed the cartridge in too hard?)

Good luck! Update us on what happens if possible.

My grandmother bought some GBA ones it looks like, so I guess someone else told her they'd work.

I'll take a look at craigslist when I get the chance; if I can't get the DS to a person that could fix it I'm sure my grandmother could.

Sounds like the prongs could be screwy. There's definitely more than 4 prongs but there are 4 that have a little bump or something above them which could make it look like they're standing up. They should be evenly spaced tho.

If I were you I'd take it down to your local gaming store and see if one of the staff members can take a quick look at it. They'd be more familiar with the console and might be able to help you figure out what's wrong so you at least know where to start.

Also ask your nephew how he removes his games. If he's tried to just pull it from the console then he's most likely damaged the springs.
