Oh, man...

Watched my second episode of Dollhouse, "Spy In The House of Love" tonight, and have decided I'm going to have to get the first season DVD. Mind you, I'm no diehard Joss Whedon fan, and I didn't have that much interest in La Femme Nikita when it was on the air, but something about this series really sets the hook in me, and it isn't just Eliza ( Read more... )

I disliked "Dollhouse" until about episode 6. After that, the series took off and by the next-to-last episode, I was hooked.

Has the new season of it started yet? I've been looking on AFN and Star World for it, but it isn't there.

I was lazy and didn't start watching it on Hulu until the first seven eps were no longer available, so I started with the season 1 recap and the watched Episode 8.

The second season starts this Friday, 9/25.

That's a common reaction from some people I've met. I (and one of the ex-housemates) watched the first 5 eps patiently, waiting to see what developed, although none of those episodes stood out... but after the 5th episode, the story begins to pick up speed, until the end of the first season arrives and you look around and say, "What? That can't be it! MORE!"

It's still important to watch the first 5 episodes, though, because a lot of little detail builds up that will matter later.

So, probably worth your DVD bux, and when the series comes back, record and/or watch the 2nd season. Sometimes the time between episodes is important in building antci-
pation....

I'm looking forward to seeing what I missed by waiting this long. I knew from internet chatter that the series started slow, so I don't mind so much that I missed episodes 1-7, but I would like to see them. As you say, there's details in there that are going to matter later in the series.

I think another part of what annoys our theoretical "regular Whedon fan" might be that Echo is not in the mold of Buffy, River, Zoe or even Faith, a strong, combative and competent heroine. She's a meat puppet who doesn't know the identity or the nature of the puppetteers, and in fact seems cheerfully willing to help the string-pullers against those who would cut the strings (we hope). Of course, that's just the way she's programmed...

I used to have nightmares about this sort of thing, and the idea of having my head messed with like this (and it can be done, albeit with cruder techniques) still scares the crap out of me. So I'm watching the episodes with a certain level of horrified fascination.
