Popular culture is eating itself again, Mom!

There are these shows on TV which a number of my friends insist that I have to watch because the writing is SO AWESOME and the acting is RILLY COOL. Usually when this happens, I back away slowly, brandishing my plush chibi-Cthulhu and mumbling under my breath, because I have a gut feeling that the show in question is a piece of crap. Well...it's Read more... )

Another person who doesn't like Douglas Adams! At last, I am not alone!

Well, helllllllllllllllllloooooooo heathen!

I actually got tired of Douglas Adams when I started reading the Hitchhicker books. And that turned me off of "British" humour.

Here's the funny thing: I enjoy Wodehouse, Blackadder and other British humour (see what I did there?) to say nothing of the occasional AbFab, but Adams struck me as rather pretentious.

I think part of my problem is that I am the pretneder to the British throne, like Greatful Dead songs at filk parties, waaay too many fanboyz (who should have been off masturbating) were instead doing bad versions of the Dead Parrot sketch and so on.

You and my daughter both. She finds NOTHING by Monty Python to be funny, because it's all been done to death.

I've never seen 30 Rock, but Lynch's analysis of 30 Rock as retreaded Muppet Show is fabulous - even Lynchean (no, the other one).

Oh, and I forgot - re: you not liking the Muppet Show - You're a backslider and a heathen!

"No, he is the Perfect Master!"

Jihad ensues.

Yes, I kept expecting to see Lara Flynn Boyle doing the cherry stem trick somewhere in there.

IMHO, life is too short to be eaten by television. Shows I MUST watch that I never have include but are not limited to:

30 Rock
Battlestar Galactica
Torchwood
The current Dr Who (although I saw an episode on AFN and may fall)
House.

"House" is a biggie for me. Two of my nearest and dearest LOVE this show but from what I've seen of the ads, I don't want to. Just 30 seconds of that character is enough to make me want to smash my TV. A full hour would likely lead to homicide.

I'm with you on 80% of those, but House I want to see more of, having been seduced by music videos. #^_^#

Oh no - he never hates *anyone* secretly. It's all open and aboveboard with him.

And it's The Muppet Show he has no interest in - he never said that he didn't like Muppets, per se.
