By the way, Kathy and four other Canadian bloggers are getting sued by perennial plaintiff Richard Warman before the Canadian Human Rights Commission for being meanies and getting him all butthurt. Thought it couldn't happen here, eh? Canada isn't that far away, physically or ( Read more... )

Not really content related, but I just wanted to make sure that you're aware that the icon you're using is a Due South slash icon.

If you're cool with it, more power to you.

I suppose a Maple Leaf Flag icon would have been somewhat more appropriate, but :effort:. Besides, I think the symbolism of Canadian things not working the way people think they ought to works just fine here.

More importantly, what did you think of the video?

The music's pretty decent, but it's not entirely my style (mainstream punk). I rather miss watching Much on TV. I used have a lot of excuses to visit Canada, but not really anymore. Canada does have a lot of good music that never quite makes its way south though. I should make the effort to see what's new since the days of Moist, Econoline Crush, and Prozzak.

Much was (is?) head and shoulders above VH1, to say nothing of MTV. As for the Canadian music scene, well, in the 20s people went to Paris for that sort of thing. Winnipeg's so much closer, no?

I have to admit half my love for the video is the imagery, the story that the song is BGM for. The penultimate scene, where you think the suits and skaters are about to get into some serious head-bashing -then it all dissolves into one huge mosh pit- is hella cool. Not that the blonde peeling off her suit jacket and rocking out hurts. :D

THe comment by a HRC member, "Freedom of Speech is really an American idea, we don't worry about it." or something like that was troubling. Also I saw someone quote the Canadian Charter which DOES grant Freedom of Speech as a granted right, somewhat different than the American Constitution that recognizes it as a God Given inalienable right

Yeah. I wonder how many of the people who rant about moving there if the elections don't go their way have ever really looked at Canada and realize that it's not just America with different faces on the dollar bills?

Actually, I have (but it might have helped that my sister did move from the U.S. to Canada). Some years back I remember coming across the search and seizure laws up there, and thinking, "Oh dear...." I don't know if they've changed, since this was about 20 some years back.

Oh, great icon!

I'm guessing they haven't, since the Tories have only been back in power for about a year.

Glad you like the icon; it's on loan from marainsanity.
