I'm under the impression that the current administration has more of an Iran policy than I would want. Just because it's not being discussed doesn't mean it's not there.

The language school in Monterrey is currently teaching Farsi. While Farsi in Afghanistan is called Dari, there is currently no need for Dari translators. There's only one reason they'd want Farsi translators.

The new plan for the missiles in Europe is to aim them towards Iran rather than to protect Poland from Russia. jordan179 complained about this, if you recall.

For these and other reasons I think that Iran is very much on the administration's radar. I do have an issue with you saying "it's going to take another 9/11" because that's what it SHOULD take. Iraq-style "pre-emptive wars" are wrong, and the dog's breakfast that resulted is proof of that.

You forget that we're still technically at war with them - well, that used to be what happened when you invade another country's embassy and hold their nationals hostage. There's also that business of their Quds Force troops being captured in Iraq with the mujahideen, and the Iranian EFPs...I could go on for a while in this vein, but you get the picture. If they'd done any of that to the Soviets/Russians, I daresay Teheran would be an enormous pile of rubble by now. I'm not saying we should behave like the Russians all the time but I don't think the current administration's policy is accomplishing a damn thing. I'm not that crazy about the previous administration's policy either; the most you could say is that it kept the Iranians from overtly interfering in the Iraq war.
