Another RTD Interview

Jul 31, 2009 17:32

An Afterelton.com interview. To be honest they held on to it, the interview took place soon after CoE aried in the UK, until after SDCC.

Now just to be clear here, no I don't think that a writer/producer/creator should always listen to the fans. In many cases vocal fans can get in ( Read more... )

I saw that interview. Is it just me or is he using the same 'it's my show I can do whatever I want and anyone who doesn't understand my genius is a crazy fangirl' argument? Maybe he should come up with something else or just stop talking.

Yeah, but you know he won't. Honestly, I really think he doesn't understand why people are pissed off. I can't wait to see the ratings for series 4; if there is one.

After reading this interview I've come to the conclusion that RTD is a bit of a pompous ass. And a bit immature too. And you've basically said what I was thinking while I was reading the interview that yes, writers shouldn't listen entirely to the fans because it will have an effect, but at the same time if you don't have fans than you don't have anyone to write for. if you're so in love with you're writing and you don't care about the fans than write what you want and keep it only for you and a select few to read. RTD spouts on about how much he loves TV and that's it's not just a passion it's a hobby but he seems to be missing the whole point of TV and movies. It's escapism at it's best. The whole reason that we watch is because we want a completely unrealistic escape for an hour or two from our very real, very dramamtic lives. And RTD really should take better care of his characters and love them a little more than he supposedly does because they are, in my opinion, 60% of why people watch the shows that they do. Most stories these ( ... )

Yes, his reaction to the critisms and concerns of fans is very immature, and not what you would expect from a man of his age and experience.

I'm kinds hating him for his comments about Supernatural as well, which I think is far better than TW.

Will have to see how he gets on in LA, not sure they will be as open to his ideas as the British channels have been.
