If we think of the Shanshu as a "reward", I think Spike's the guy. As Joss has said, he's more "evolved". Or they could flip a coin.

But I actually think the Shanshu is about Angel because it's about a vampire who could go either way, and of the two, that'd be Angel. He was cursed with the soul and I think that means there's more struggle for him. Also Angel's story has been much more wrapped up in destiny and epic stuff, and that fits the Shanshu. Spike's just doing his thing.

Yes, I can see that. With Spike he has moved slowly into his role, via the chip and now getting a soul, while Angel is more black and white.

When he is Angel he is good, when he is Angelus he is evil, therefore it is more of a split personality. While with Spike it is a choice to get his soul, with Angel it was thrust on him.

I'd like them both to get it - or, failing that, Spike.

LOL I have to agree. They have been vampires for so long, I doubt they would know how to cope!

I think Spike deserves the Shanshu but I really believe Angel is the on in prophecy. The reason is that part where it wasn't known which side (good or evil) the souled vampire would fight for in that last battle. Angel is the wild card...Spike made his choice already.

Spike would be the better human. He never lost touch with his human core and has been in many ways human all along in several important areas. Angel had trouble being a human when he was one and as a souled vampire has been mostly wallowing until he finally became proactive with his move to LA. He's still working out the bugs.

I think they, like everyone else, mature from experience so they would be far different from their previous human selves. Some core character traits would remain to a degree but maturity would have molded them into something different.

Yes, I think that Angel, of the two, is the wild card. Spike has evolved more into the person (vampire) he is now, while Angel has reacted to situations, without true acceptance.

I think that after so many decades as demons they'd both be pretty bad at the whole human thing. And honestly I don't think they really want it. Not even Angel.

But I really really don't want one of them to be human and the other left alone. They need to be together forever :) (I'm in a romantic mood) Yay Spangel!

Oh yes, they need each other, even if they become human. Only people who have been through what they have could understand each other!

I don't think Spike really wants it, Spike probably deserves it more then angel but I can't see him really wanting it, soul or not he loves being a vampire.

I think both of them would miss being vampires, and all the attibutes that entails. Not sure that Spike wants to be human either, and Spike does tend to go off and do good for the sake of it, unlike Angel who always wants something or broods. He has to have a goal, while Spike just gets on with it.
