Going to Bed!

Right, before I do a rant about why AtS is so much better than BtVS (please take my key board away from me), I'm going to bed. This is just getting to me!

Night!

Should say this has been bugging me for a few days, not sure if you are safe yet!

I think BTVS is way better *runs away and hides*

But seriously, they are halves of the same whole... not really complete without the other while enjoyable on their own.

I think that AtS explored the dark side, and trying for redemption, better. Everything had a consequence on AtS, while on BtVS it was written that Buffy was always right. Even when are actions seemed a little off, she came up smelling of roses every time.

I don't think those things you mention a better show makes. The theme of redemption alone doesn't define a good show. And as I said they ar two halves of the same whole, they can't both do the same themes otherwise thre would be no point to them both existing.

When it was on air, I only watched AtS. I tried numerous times to get inot BtVS, but is was just too young for me. From the very first episode of AtS I was into it. So I could watch one without the other.

I have got the box sets of both series, and have watched them all now. And in the correct order that they aired in the US (which I couldn't do in the UK at the time). Even then, I found BtVS heavy going at points.

Umm, why is AtS so much better than BtVS? I love it too, but BtVS has Giles, I loves Giles. And Spike. And Xander. Even Oz. But Wesley and his arc in AtS, nothing better in TV. And the various arcs of AtS as so rich and wonderful (except for season , ech.)

It wasn't so much the guys, if I was only going for the guys it would be BtVS, it, after all had Spike. Who I thought was the best looking. Yes there was the Wes story arc in AtS, but also it was more adult in taking on the grey area, and allowing the lead to make bad decisions. Which were not always written away at the end of the episode, but led to consequences.

Yep, I agree. AtS was much more interesting in that way. I loved the moral qualms and the refusal to flinch from the tragic results of good intentions.

Yes, because of the moral ambiguity, it had a depth

Agreed, can't wait to hear your rant. For me ATS was better suited for my tastes. I was younger than Buffy but I was bored with the high school stuff. I like the ATS characters better, Worfram and Hart were kick ass bad guys not the type that would vanish after one season finale. On BTVS it was pretty much "demons bad human good" on Angel you actually get to see the shades of grey better. It added so much more to characters like Cordelia, Angel (who I was bored of on BTVS), Wesley, Darla and made me like Faith. The worse season had to be four but even that "end of days" felt more like the real deal than season 7 of BTVS did IMHO.

Agreed, the characters where human, it was more adult in taking on the grey area, and allowing the lead to make bad decisions. Which were not always written away at the end of the episode, but led to consequences.

With Buffy, when Buffy did something that could be thought of as grey, it was always written out by the end of the episode. So she came up smelling of roses. Unrealisitic.

Of course the High School stuff just did nothing for me. Nothing like that when I was at school.
