Bit of odd question...

So, going further on the idea that statistics where n = 1 sucks, I thought I'd toss a question out to the crowd.

I get that, and a distinct metallic taste as well. Then my salivary glands kick in big time.

That is my salivary glands kicking overtime. It's like I've just taken a drink of mineral water or some such...

I think I get the watery taste because I salivate. But, I don't think I *always* get that when I'm about to throw up. Sometimes it comes on faster / with less warning than other times.

I rarely ever throw up, so I can quite remember what happens when I do. Usually I have plenty of warning...

Well, my saliva tends to have a different 'taste' then when I'm about to throw up. It's like I've just taken a drink of water but it's from my salivary glands.

Just another anecdote of the same thing- I salivate as well. It seems somehow qualitatively different from other saliva, but I can't swear to that.

So, salivation seems to be common while it having little in the way of flavor or such seems to be not as common. Good seeing both of you last night. Yay!

It does seem like a more watery saliva than usual to me.

Good seeing you too! Sorry that you continue to have tummy troubles, though.

I just make lots of spit.

Yes, that seems to be common. Is it normal spit or is it spit without all the extra additions the mouth usually features?

extra additions, what?

Yes, extra additions. From the Wikipedia article on saliva: (I was trying to be brief.)

Produced in salivary glands, saliva is 98% water, but it contains many important substances, including electrolytes, mucus,
antibacterial compounds and various enzymes.

It is a fluid containing:

  • Water
  • Electrolytes:
    • 2-21 mmol/L sodium (lower than blood plasma)

    • 10-36 mmol/L potassium (higher than plasma)
    • 1.2-2.8 mmol/L calcium
